Setting up a course for a 5k can be very tedious and time consuming if your unfamiliar with the process. The safety of the runners/ walkers is most important and should be considered in stages of planning. Each race location carries its own challenges. Some of the challenges include:
- Do you need to close roads in order to have a safe race?
- Do police need to be involved to stop traffic during the race?
- Are permits required?
- How do you measure a 5k course and will you certify the course to ensure accuracy?
- What type of signage will you use to direct the runners/walkers in the race?
- How many water stops should be placed on the course?
- Is the road wide enough?
- How do I measure 3.1 miles?
- Where will the start and finish location be?
- Do I need cones throughout the course?
5k race director can handing all aspects of course management, from setting up road closures, signage, mile marks, water stations, cones, course measurement, course certification, permits and much more. |
